A / AN

Articolul nehotarat - romana (un, o)

– se aseaza inaintea sustantivelor care denumesc obiecte necunoscute indeajuns vorbitorului.

REZUMAT
In limba engleza avem doua forme de singular, ambele cu sensul UN/O. Forma A se foloseste cu substantive care incep cu sunet "consoana", iar AN pentru sunet "vocala". Pentru plural folosim SOME la forma afirmativa si ANY la forma negative si interogativa.

Indefinite Article - English (a/an)

– it is placed before the noun to denote objects that aren't really known to the speaker.

 Forms

A and AN both mean UN/O. Use 'a' with nouns starting with a consonant (letters that are not vowels), 'an' with nouns starting with a vowel (a,e,i,o,u)
NOTE: An before an h mute - an hour, an honour. A before u and eu when they sound like 'you': a european, a university, a unit

a=un/o
a boy = un baiat
a girl = o fata
! The sound /ju/ is a semi-consonant:
a university = o universitate
a union = o uniune

an=un/o
an eye = un ochi
an ear = o ureche
! Sometimes we don't read the "h" at the beginning of some words:
an hour = o ora

For plural we usually use SOME in positive sentences and ANY in negative and interrogative sentences.

some boys = niste baieti
some girls = niste fete
some eyes = niste ochi
some ears = niste urechi
